Many people devote a large part of their free time to things that are purely for entertainment. That is why sociologists nowadays also speak of an entertainment society when they want to describe today's society in modern countries in more detail.
According to Statista the average daily TV consumption in Germany in 2021 was a staggering 3 hours 33 minutes and the time spent on music streaming platforms 67 minutes.
The daily time spent on social media, on the other hand, could be extrapolated to 1 hour 29 minutes and - not to forget - the daily consumption of video games, which amounted to 47 minutes in the same year (Statista).
With all this consumption, which is always about other people, superheroes or characters, people forget the most important thing, namely themselves and their own future.
What the neglect of one's own future, one's own goals and interests entails, I don't think I need to mention here - it's self-explanatory.
The modification of the saying "man is what he eats" to, "man becomes what he consumes" best brings out the consequence of this above-mentioned consumer behaviour.
Instead, one could also say that such behaviour makes the human being a product of his environment, in other words, far too much under the influence of external factors, people and opinions.
However, success in life only occurs when one does not allow themself to be influenced by others, permanently follows their own goals and then ultimately becomes the product of their own decisions instead of that of one's environment.
Consumption in itself is not bad - on the contrary, even successful people are constantly consuming. The only difference is that they only consume things that really help them to move forward in life, both mentally and physically.
According to the success mindset, anything that harms you and doesn't help you get ahead in life doesn't belong in life either and is to be quickly discarded.
This may sound too selfish to some, but whether it is in fact so selfish can be answered quite quickly by asking the following question:
Can I help my family, my circle of friends and other people better as a successful person?
The answer is quite clearly: Yes!
Because in this day and age, help has to do mainly with the use of financial resources and time. Without success in life, however, people usually do not have either of these resources, so that they are sometimes not even able to help themselves. So how are they supposed to be able to help other people?
Achieving success requires a strong why. If the goal of becoming successful is based on weak whys and motives, it is therefore not easy to make the desired state of success a reality.
The whys and motives are the true drivers of success and the more intensively you chase them, the faster you will reach your final goal - the state of success.
This is why it is so important not to waste your time on superficial entertainment and instead devote most of it to the things that really help you realise your own dream.
The formula for success is: Less Netflix and more coaching & training instead!
